The Heart of a Father:
Essays by Men Affected by Congenital Heart Defects
edited by Anna Marie Jaworski and Bob Daigneault

Just in time for Fathers' Day, here is a one-of-a-kind book written by dads for dads and others in the congenital heart defect (CHD) community. This book has 50 contributors from around the world who have written essays or poems regarding different aspects of living with CHDs.

Approximately one in 100 live births in the U.S. are babies born with a CHD. In fact, every 15 minutes a baby is born with a congenital heart defect, the most common birth defect to occur in newborns. There are over one million adults alive with congenital heart defects. Most people know of someone who has a congenital heart defect whether it is something "simple" like a "hole in the heart" or something life-threatening like transposition of the great vessels or a single ventricle anomaly.

In fact, Frank Jaworski, a nurse at Scott & White Hospital, and his father-in-law, Bob Daigneault, both of Temple, were affected by CHDs when Alexander Jaworski was born with a severe, congenital heart defect at Scott & White Hospital. Both men have contributed to "The Heart of a Father: Essays by Men Affected by Congenital Heart Defects." Bob Daigneault is a contributor and the co-editor of this book and Frank Jaworski also helped with the book (edited by his wife, Anna Jaworski). Frank Jaworski's son, Alexander, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome in August of 1994. Bob Daigneault contributed an essay in the Grandfathers' chapter.

Frank Jaworski is a 1980 Ellison High School graduate and Anna Jaworski graduated from Ellison in 1981. Anna then got her teaching degree and taught at Killeen High School. Bob Daigneault was a teacher at Smith Middle School on Fort Hood for 9 years and then became an administrator in the school district.

Bob Daigneault and Frank Jaworski will be doing a Central Texas Book Signing Tour for "The Heart of a Father" beginning at Book People in Austin on June 19th at 7 p.m., continuing at Hastings in Killeen on June 20th from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at Hastings in Waco on June 21st (Fathers' Day) from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Hill Country Bookstore in Georgetown on July 3rd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and at The Twig Book Store in San Antonio on July 18th from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
